About Us
Jake Brickley spent more than two decades working in design for several major fashion houses in Milan, London and Paris.
After having watched his individual designs being continually co-opted by the teams lead designer and having the brand name appear on his hard work he became disillusioned with the world of high fashion.
At age 42 he decided to walk away from the career he had chosen.
Being born in London to a British mother and a Swedish merchant marine father Jake had grown up sailing and traveling through the South Pacific the Indian Ocean. When he left the fashion world he decided to spend the next 5 years exploring the Caribbean. He bought a small live aboard sailboat which would allow him to inexpensively see as many islands as possible.
Packing up for day excursions on islands he was visiting he realized that the world of beach, boat, and tote bags were lacking in function.
I met Jake 3 years ago when I moored next to his boat in The Bitter End of Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands. He shared his bag design with me and I told him I have always noticed the same lack of functional design in beach bags.
That night, back on the boat he chalked out a design for a bag that would meet all his day trip needs.
After a few rums and laughs and a couple of days of sailing together, Jake handed me the patterns he had made and asked me if I could produce these bags. That was 3 years ago, it wasn’t as easy as I thought.
Jake is still sailing the Caribbean, his five-year plan has been extended indefinitely, good for him. He calls me every few months, gives me an odd shipping address on some small island and I will ship him a few dozen bags and his royalty checks.
He’s sailing to new places, I’m working daily, good for you Jake Brickley.
Today we are presenting beach items that we agree are the finest quality in form and function for beach lovers around the world.
